Overview
Excursion to Roman theater in Alexandria to visit a unique to Egypt ancient structure.
Do not miss your chance to visit the Roman Amphitheater in Alexandria and enjoy its beauty and the beauty of its ancient mosaics that were once laid on the floor of the theater.
This unique Roman amphitheater found in Egypt is undoubtedly worth a visit while touring Alexandria city.
This structure dates from the second century of our era.
It was accidentally discovered in 1960 by the Egyptian-Polish expedition to Kom-el-Dekka.
The theater consists of two main parts: AUDITORIUM - a lecture hall and SKENE - a hall for performances.
Between these two parts was a special place for orchestra.
The diameter of the theater was 42 meters.
Now it is impossible to determine exactly how many steps the theater had until the VI century.
After that, it became 33.5 meters in diameter and had 16 steps.
The remains of the mosaic floor, which once covered the entire floor of the theater stage, are still visible.
The steps of the theater itself are made of white marble, with the exception of the bottom, which is made of pink granite.
Also here you can see “Villa of Birds” - these are four well-preserved floor mosaics depicting birds.
